Mike Bradford Part 8: Cloud MES in 2024

From Hesitation to Innovation: How Cloud Technology is Transforming Manufacturing

About the Interview

The manufacturing industry has traditionally been uncertain of cloud-based solutions, opting for on-premises data storage to ensure access even during service disruptions. However, as technology evolves, these concerns are being addressed, paving the way for a seamless transition to the digital manufacturing future. In this interview, Mike Bradford, Marketing Director at Dassault Systèmes, explores how advances in cloud technology, particularly Dassault’s DELMIA Cloud MES, have overcome past challenges and unlocked new opportunities for manufacturers.

Mike highlights two primary concerns manufacturers have faced regarding cloud adoption: latency and data security. Dassault Systèmes mitigates these challenges through its three supported cloud models:

  1. Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS)
  2. Platform as a Service (PaaS)
  3. Software as a Service (SaaS)

Focusing on Software as a Service, Mike emphasizes its fully cloud-based nature. With Dassault managing the servers and software, manufacturers need only an internet connection to get started. This approach significantly reduces costs by eliminating the need for on-site hardware or technical expertise. Companies can scale operations gradually, starting with a single production line and expanding as needed, thanks to the subscription-based pricing model.

To conclude, Mike emphasizes the transformative value of a unified, model-based digital solution that spans the entire process from design to execution. The digital thread and virtual twin capabilities built in Dassault’s platform not only streamline current operations but also position manufacturers for long-term success in an increasingly digital landscape.
